Best Deep Fryer For Home Use Reviews

Are you thinking of buying a best deep fryer for home use?

Having a fryer will make those frozen and breaded foods not only taste better but be ready faster.

Items like chicken fingers, wings, okra, onion rings, and potatoes taste better when they are crispy and crunch, and that is just not possible when baking in the oven.

So, if you are on board with having a best deep fryer in your home there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, be sure to clean them regularly to improve their lifespan and reduce the risk of oil splattering out and burning you or staining surrounding items.

Second, it is best to dedicate an area of your countertop specifically for the fryer. One where an outlet is close by and there is enough space surrounding the fryer to place a couple of towels to keep the area clean.

Each of these units has their pros and cons, and when purchasing a fryer these things should first be considered:

  • How many people are in your family, or will be cooked for with the fryer?
  • How often will you be using the fryer?
  • What is your experience level with frying?

Once you have answered these questions, you are ready to decide which fryer is right for you. Here is the breakdown.

1. Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer

[review_product_right box_title=”Best Choice” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/Presto-05420-FryDaddy-Electric-Fryer/dp/B00005KB37?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00005KB37&linkCode=as2&linkId=de2597e676c39aa00a7fbcb0db70cd51&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71-2Xv9ELQL._SL250_.jpg” image_alt=”Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer” product_title=”Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/presto-05420-deep-fryer-review/”]Presto 05420 fryer is great for those who enjoy fried food but don’t make it nearly often and want to save some space.[/review_product_right]

The big thing with Presto’s Fry Daddy is the 4:4 oil to food ratio. For those unfamiliar, that means four large servings of food to four cups of oil, making this one of the most oil efficient fryers on the market.

The preset thermostat heats to the same temperature every time, as long as the oil is kept filled to the line and the fryer is moderately clean and in good working condition.

That is one thing to watch out for with this unit- if it is not cleaned regularly, you will notice a significant drop in performance quality.

Once the oil starts to become thick and brown, strain it out. Clean the inside and then add fresh oil. As long as this is done regularly, you should enjoy a nice long lifespan with the FryDaddy.

The biggest thing that sets this unit apart from most counter top fryers is the straining spoon. The spoon is used to remove items from the fryer without the typical basket found in most fryers.

It is debatable whether or not this is very effective- for large quantities of frying at a single time the basket seems like a better way to go.

But beyond that, this unit makes food crispy and golden brown, stuff that looks as good as it tastes.

The secure lid means that it is possible to store the oil in the fryer without having to empty when not in use, as long as you have the counter space. This is convenient for that sometimes sudden impulse to fry something.

When empty, the fryer sits in just about any cabinet and related items such as a basket if you decide to add one can be stored on top of the fryer.

Basically, what you are getting with the Presto 05420 FryDaddy is the market’s most modern take on home frying. The food will come out great, just remember- keep the thing clean.

2. T-fal FR8000 Oil Filtration Ultimate EZ Clean Easy to clean 3.5-Liter Fry Basket Stainless Steel Immersion Deep Fryer, 2.6-Pound, Silver

[review_product_right box_title=”Also Great” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/T-fal-Filtration-3-5-Liter-Stainless-Immersion/dp/B00NQ7QFGM?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00NQ7QFGM&linkCode=as2&linkId=7dc20d4fd7075a2b0026f591d899f387&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91gB0JDWHEL._SL250_.jpg” image_alt=”T-fal FR8000″ product_title=”T-fal FR8000 Oil Filtration Ultimate EZ Clean Easy to clean 3.5-Liter Fry Basket Stainless Steel Immersion Deep Fryer, 2.6-Pound, Silver” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/the-t-fal-fr8000-deep-fryer-review/”]T-fal FR8000 deep fryer will solve practically ever problem you have with frying. It minimizes the mess and makes clean up a breeze. Never has deep frying been so satisfying and convenient[/review_product_right]

With a food capacity of 2.65 pounds and a 3.5-liter oil storage line, this countertop fryer is best for families or groups. It is a little over the top for single person usage.

The unit has an adjustable thermostat, something not always found on home fryers, and cooks with 1700 watts of power.

The immersion heating element keeps the oil to temperature even with frozen foods like chicken fingers and French fries, meaning that if multiple batches of food are to be made the last one will not take twice as long as the first one (something very common in cheaper units).

For cleaning, everything except the power chord and heating element can go in the dishwasher and will actually fit- very convenient and easy cleaning without having to scrub dirty oil for minutes with your hands.

Additionally, there are two things that clearly separate this fryer from everything else on the market

1. The oil filtration system, which filters food particles out of the oil automatically and greatly increases the lifespan of the oil. The way that this unit is designed, with the filtration system in a neat storage compartment at the bottom of the fryer, also makes for extremely easy removal of the oil for changing. This is groundbreaking- most counter top fryers require the user to remove a bowl of oil from the top of the unit. With this setup, the chances of a large oil spill are greatly reduced.

2. The odor filter. There is nothing worse than your kitchen smelling constantly of dirty oil. This filter does a good job of withholding, or at least minimizing, the smell throughout the life of the oil. Great for those who like to entertain in their home.

3. Waring Pro DF280 Professional Deep Fryer, Brushed Stainless

[review_product_right box_title=”Also Great” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/Waring-DF280-Professional-Brushed-Stainless/dp/B005Z4935O?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B005Z4935O&linkCode=as2&linkId=360f6516b8d03b141c86c6cc1f59af5f&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71Vw%2B4WSbfL._SL400_.jpg” image_alt=”Waring Pro DF280 Professional Deep Fryer” product_title=”Waring Pro DF280 Professional Deep Fryer, Brushed Stainless” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/waring-pro-df280-deep-fryer-review/”]The Waring Pro DF280 was built with professional parts, and that has certainly been noted by many reviewers. Everything just looks and feels a little luxurious and very high quality.[/review_product_right]

Waring has another fryer here that is good for families, although without the game-changing elements of the T-fal.

The power system is very strong- coming in at 1800 watts.

The unit holds one gallon of oil and does not offer any type of filtration system. Oil is changed by removing the gallon container and dumping with the pour spout.

One good thing about this fryer is that it can be good for small sized restaurant operations as the unit comes with one large and two small heavy mesh baskets.

The handles on the baskets collapse, although after time they become greasy and the collapsing does not work as well and is harder to reset. You may have a problem getting them to hang into the fryer at the right angle, which makes it tough to cook anything more than one or two pieces of food at a time.

When working correctly, though, this unit cooks 2.3 pounds of food at a time and does a decent job at holding temperature throughout the cooking process. The unit is cheaply produced and is a bit flimsy, which reduces confidence in it lasting for a long time.

Also, the control unit for the times is on the back piece of the fryer and if it is hot and the oil is a bit dirty, you will be hit by hot steam when trying to set the timer. The controls on the front of the unit become greasy over time and overall seem a bit unnecessary.

If you are looking for anything other than consistent frying of the same food item so that you aren’t having to use the temperature and timer controls very often, this unit will do you well but for variable cooking, this is not the best option.

4. T-fal FR4049 Family Pro 3-Liter Oil Capacity Electric Deep Fryer with Stainless Steel Waffle, 2.6-Pound, Silver

[review_product_right box_title=”Also Great” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/T-fal-Capacity-Electric-Stainless-2-6-Pound/dp/B0085ITAT6?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0085ITAT6&linkCode=as2&linkId=b94370435df8036a87fb0ca519531f85&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81B6jeDaXcL._SL400_.jpg” image_alt=”T-fal FR4049″ product_title=”T-fal FR4049 Family Pro 3-Liter Deep Fryer with Stainless Steel Waffle, 2.6-Pound, Silver” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/t-fal-fr4049-family-pro-3-liter-deep-fryer-review/”]If you want a fryer that doesn’t require all of the work, then the T-fal FR4049 Family Pro 3-Liter Deep Fryer with Stainless Steel Waffle, 2.6-Pound, Silver is the one for you: plug in, set the temperature you need, place the food into the basket, set the timer, and forget about it until it goes off.[/review_product_right]

3.3 liters of oil heat up to fry 2.65 pounds of food to a consistent golden brown with this counter top fyer.

The thermostat is adjustable and the lid keeps the face from getting too hot so that if you need to up the temperature during frying, you can do so without risking getting burned by hot steam.

One nice thing about this fryer is that the lid has a viewing window so that you can see if your food is floating and ready to be removed.

The magnetic plug does have a tendency to become greasy over time, it is recommended that you scrub it down now and then along with the rest of the unit.

The timer goes up to 60 minutes and is located on the front of the unit and again, be sure to use with the lid on so you don’t get burned by the steam.

It is a bit large so users will have to dedicate an area of their counter for it, but the lid closes and keeps the oil from spilling out so that it is not necessary to remove the oil each time. Change the oil after about every ten uses, especially if you are filling the unit to capacity or cooking items from frozen.

The outside of the unit has a tendency to get hot quickly so do not move or touch the outside when plugged in.

Basically, this is a standard, run of the mill unit that delivers consistent food but does not have upgraded options like an oil filtration system or an improved way to remove the oil from the unit. As always, be careful when changing the oil because it is easy to cause a large spill when dumping into a bucket or strainer.

5. Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer

[review_product_right box_title=”Also Great” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/Presto-05411-GranPappy-Electric-Fryer/dp/B0000Z6JK0?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0000Z6JK0&linkCode=as2&linkId=ec50e01ad84e21fe68dd924e6d8e2f0a&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41sW8UaVgJL.jpg” image_alt=”Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer” product_title=”Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/presto-05411-granpappy-electric-deep-fryer-review/”]If you want to fry food and fry it really well, the Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer is a great fryer. If you want to fry food or bake it or roast it or make kabobs, this one might fall short.[/review_product_right]

Presto seems to have a vendetta against fryer baskets. If a user is used to it then it might not matter, but using the straining ladle takes some adjustment.

What they do very well is design fryers that are cylindrical and compact so that you are getting maximum frying space and not taking up a huge chunk of your counter.

This particular fryer is built to look like a bucket- complete with ahandle around the top. It resembles an at-home version of festival style fry cooking, where food items are dropped into the oil and removed by ladle when the float.

This unit is very convenient for storage at home and also for moving around if you would like to take it to a barbecue or to another location the shape and design of this fryer make it very easy to do so.

1500 watts and a built-in temperature gauge keep the oil at cooking temperature throughout the cooking process.

There are no dials or whistles with this unit, it comes as is and produces consistent, quality finished product that looks and tastes good.

Its design and the handle make it easy to change the oil and the sturdy build ensures that this fryer will last for many years if taken proper care of. It is a bit larger than the Presto Daddy and does tend to get hot to the touch, just make sure you use the handle when it is plugged in.

Overall, this product is effective and very easy to store both on acounter top or in a closet.

Head to head comparison

The Presto fryers, both units, are the best for size and compact cooking, as well as portability.

What they lack in fancy features and gizmos they easily make up for with efficient design and consistency.

For basic use and for those without much experience in a kitchen, these fryers are a great way to start and to get comfortable using a deep fryer. You will literally not find any units that are easier to use on the market.

The Pappy is a bit bigger than the Daddy, making it better for family situations.

The best overall unit as far as add-ons and industry leading tricks here are the T-fral FR800.

Both its oil filtration system as well as the odor control device are unmatched by anything else on the market, making this the Cadillac of the countertop deep fryers.

This unit is a big step up from their FR4049 and is also a step ahead of the Waring Pro DF280.

Looking to impress friends or family? You have your deep fryer with the FR800.

Conclusion

For families or for someone who cooks to entertain others on a regular basis, the T-fral FR800 is the clear winner here.

It has all of the tricks of the trade and maintains a consistent, golden-fry finish without requiring a ridiculous amount of cleaning. It is also the easiest to use from start to finish and stands as the only unit here that has gone so far as to revolutionize the process of both filtering and changing the oil.

For a solo cooker or small family, the Presto GranPappy is the way to go.

It takes almost no effort to set up and learn and is hands down the simplest product on this list. It will last for a long time with proper care. The handle and bucket shape make it relatively easy to clean and maintain, as well as handle when hot.

Oh, and the easy storage – that is a big selling point as well.

While all of the best deep fryers discussed here will do the trick and make tasty food, these two units are the way to go when looking for value, efficiency, and cleanliness.

Fried food is some of the greatest comfort food that you can eat, but there’s no doubt that it isn’t the healthiest for you.

The concept of an air fryer can be hard to grasp, but it’s easy to understand once you learn the technology behind it.

Honest Reviews for the Best Air Fryers

Most of the air fryers on the market today have very similar technology, especially when it comes to the basic operation. But there are still some important features of each that sets them apart from each other. I will provide you with air fryer reviews which are assessed well from customers , so you can determine which one is the right option for you.

1. GoWISE USA GW22621 Electric Air Fryer with Touch Screen Technology

[review_product_right box_title=”Best Choice” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/GoWISE-USA-GW22621-Generation-Technology/dp/B0106RV5JG?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0106RV5JG&linkCode=as2&linkId=9768906cbfbb835e3a9d4980850bfe46&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81aYSGXvzoL._SL250_.jpg” image_alt=”GoWISE USA GW22621″ product_title=”GoWISE USA GW22621 4th Generation Electric Air Fryer w/ Touch Screen Technology, Button Guard & Detachable Basket – Black 3.2 QT, 1500W” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/gowise-usa-gw22621-air-fryer-review/”]For a family of 4-5, the GoWise is perfect to prepare dinner. One can easily fit 4 chicken breasts and have them cooked evenly and completely. It fits into any kitchen and keeps its looks thanks to easy-to-clean parts.[/review_product_right]

If you’ve been looking for a quality air fryer to use that will stay within a budget, then this is a fantastic option. It has a 3.7-quart capacity and operates on 1,500 Watts. What I like best about it is that it has seven different programs that you can set depending on the type of food you want to cook. You can cook chips, chicken, steaks, shrimp, fish or just about anything else with a touch of a button!

The adjustable temperature ranges from 175-degrees to 400-degrees Fahrenheit.

And most of the time all it requires is a tablespoon or so of oil to get the desired crispiness.

Since most foods won’t take very long, this fryer has a safety timer, which will go into standby mode after 30 minutes.

Once your food is finished cooking, you can easily transfer it to a serving dish by detaching the basket.

This air fryer works great with frozen foods or even fresh chicken or meats. And another great thing about it is that it isn’t too bulky, so you won’t have to worry about it taking up kitchen space. This is definitely one of the most convenient and easy-to-use air fryers that you can buy!

2. Philips HD9220/26 Air Fryer with Rapid Air Technology

[review_product_right box_title=”Also Great” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/Philips-HD9220-26-AirFryer-Technology/dp/B00D7N43UA?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00D7N43UA&linkCode=as2&linkId=7d845e71e25a6bfce2aa42709b6e6aec&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51gCy2APoLL._SL250_.jpg” image_alt=”Philips HD9220/26 Air Fryer” product_title=”Philips HD9220/26 AirFryer with Rapid Air Technology, Black” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/philips-hd922026-airfryer-review/”]For me, the Philips Airfryer makes it easier to enjoy quick snacks that aren’t deep fried. With purchase of the additional accessories its versatility may go up, giving you even more foods with which to experiment.[/review_product_right]

This air fryer may look like a simple unit, but it packs a pretty good punch. If you don’t necessarily want to just use an air fryer for frying foods, then this one can also grill, roast and bake different foods as well.

It has a 1.8lb capacity in the cooking basket, so it is better for feeding 1-2 people.

If you have a larger family or if you are frying foods for a few guests, then you will have to make a few different batches.

It includes an adjustable temperature control that goes up to 390-degrees, which is plenty for frying just about any type of food.

Cleaning this air fryer is one of the best features because of the convenience. The food basket and non-stick coated drawer are both removable and dishwasher safe, so you won’t have to spend a lot of time cleaning up after you’re done using it. And it’s definitely better than having to deal with cleaning oil up after deep-frying!

While this air fryer has some good features, it is best suited for cooking snacks like fries and other frozen foods.

In my experience, the foods haven’t come out with the crispy texture that I’m used to with other air fryers, but it still gets the job done and cooks everything thoroughly.

3. Cozyna Air Fryer with Rapid Air Circulation System

[review_product_right box_title=”Also Great” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/Cozyna-Healthy-Circulation-cookbooks-Included/dp/B00VAOVHN4?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00VAOVHN4&linkCode=as2&linkId=cc98adb40068623d595d0c52e520ae9f&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=fryerland-20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71iQjcft88L._SL1500_.jpg” image_alt=”Cozyna Air Fryer with Rapid Air Circulation System” product_title=”Air Fryer by Cozyna, Low Fat Healthy and Multi Cooker with Rapid Air Circulation System, 3.2 L with 2 e-cookbooks Included (over 50 recipes)” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/air-fryer-by-cozyna-low-fat-healthy-and-multi-cooker-review/”]The Cozyna Air Fryer allows you to replace fat laden fried food, without having to miss out on that addicting crisp, crunchy flavor. This small machine, with its 1500 watts of frying power, uses 70% less oil to cook your favorite foods. In other words, you only have to use one tablespoon of oil versus having your food swim in it.[/review_product_right]

If you want food with a fried texture, but without all the grease and fat, then look no further than this air fryer.

For most foods that you cook, this Cozyna air fryer will use up to 70% less oil than you would use in a regular fryer.

And the best part about it is that it’s not limited to just frying. You can also bake, grill and roast with just a touch of a button. Whether you’re making chicken, burgers, fries or fish, this is the perfect unit.

It has somewhat of a small capacity at just 3.2-liters, but it also comes with a handy recipe book that includes more than 50 recipes to help you get creative with using it.

Since it is smaller, it’s best used just for a couple of people. You can always make multiple batches, though, if you have a larger group to feed.

The adjustable temperature can be set as high as 392-degrees, which is perfect for a wide variety of foods.

I also enjoy that most of the parts are dishwasher safe, so I don’t have to spend a lot of time cleaning up.

There aren’t a lot of special features about this air fryer, but it is a reliable brand that you will enjoy for a long time!

4. Della Electric Air Fryer with Temperature Control

[review_product_right box_title=”Also Great” box_url=”http://www.amazon.com/DELLA%C2%A9-Electric-Temperature-Control-Detachable/dp/B01CXCM8PC?ie=UTF8&ref_=zg_bs_289918_20″ image_url=”http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61ujjUOJUlL._SL400_.jpg” image_alt=”Della Electric Air Fryer with Temperature Control” product_title=”DELLA© Electric Air Fryer w/ Temperature Control, Detachable Basket & Carry Handle – White, 1500W” user=”4.5″ full_review_url=”http://www.fryerland.com/della-electric-temperature-control-detachable-review/”]The DELLA© Electric Air Fryer w/ Temperature Control, Detachable Basket & Carry Handle – White, 1500W is a healthy option for small families that still want to have high quality fried food. The air frying capabilities save you money over time because you aren’t constantly loading the machine with expensive oils. It will also likely save you money on health care costs.[/review_product_right]

There isn’t anything fancy about this air fryer, but it consistently gets the job done.

With a temperature range from 175-degrees to 392-degrees Fahrenheit, it gets plenty hot enough to air fry just about any foods.

It is mainly designed for appetizers and sides like French fries and onion rings, but it can cook things like chicken as well.

The detachable basket is nice to have, especially if you are making several batches of a certain food.

It also has a carry handle to make it easier to transport and store.

The 4.4-quart capacity isn’t the biggest, but it is still a pretty decent size.

The one knock on this air fryer is that it tends to take longer to cook than what it’s supposed to.

As a result, sometimes the food gets dried out instead of fried crispy. It may take you a little bit of practice to learn how the temperature works and how full you need to fill it, but it’s a nice little fryer once you get the hang of it.

One way to know that you have the temperature set to exactly what you need it on is by having a digital display. This air fryer features a digital touch screen that allows you to set the temperature up to 390-degrees Fahrenheit, and it has a 60-minute timer that will automatically shut off once it reaches that time.

This air fryer has a 1.8-pound cooking capacity, which seems even larger because of the double layer rack. I really think the double layer rack is the best feature of this air fryer because you can put more food in a single batch.

And most of the parts are dishwasher safe, so you can quickly and easily clean up your mess!

When compared to the Philips HD9220/26 model, this one definitely has some convenient features that sets it apart. But you have to decide whether the digital display and the additional rack are worth the difference in the price. I think it is, but it just depends on what you plan on using the air fryer for.

What to Consider When Buying an Air Fryer

After reading in details the air fryer reviews, you may know which one is suitable to you.

In general, most air fryers are designed the same way when it comes to the functionality. As you can see, however, there are some different features that set some apart from the rest.

Those come with a higher price tag, but it may be worth it if you plan on using yours frequently.

Here are some of the features and specifications to take into consideration when trying to narrow down your options.

Size

Depending on your living situation, you may be limited in your choices of air fryers.

Luckily, most air fryers are pretty compact, so they are not any larger than 15” x 15” x 15”. You definitely have to keep the size in mind if you live in an apartment where there is limited counter space. Since you have to plug the air fryer into an electrical outlet, you may have to shuffle some things around on your countertop in order to make room.

Even though the actual frying capacity may not be too sizable, the overall size of air fryers can be a little bulkier than expected.

Capacity

Most standard air fryers will have a frying capacity of 1.8-2.5 pounds per food. This is perfect for cooking smaller foods like French fries, chicken strips and other items around that size.

If you are just cooking for 1-2 people occasionally, then there’s no reason to really get one any bigger than that.

But if you plan on using it to cook for guests, or if you like to make a lot of food at once, then you may consider getting one that’s a little larger than standard.

Settings

Most air fryers will come with at least a basic instruction guide on what temperature to set the fryer at for certain foods. You will always be able to set the temperature on the fryer, but depending on the model that you have, you may have to turn a dial or press a touch screen to get it to the desired temperature.

Some models will also have a timer that you can set so you know when it’s time to check your food.

A lot of models also have an automatic timer where the unit will turn off or go into stand by mode after 30 or 60 minutes just to ensure that you don’t burn the food.

The point of the air fryers is to cook food quickly and without a lot of hot oil, so it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to cook any given food item.

Price

This may be one of the top concerns for many people who haven’t bought or used an air fryer before.

It can be tough to justify spending a good amount of money on an item that is different from what you are used to cooking with.

You definitely don’t want to go cheap when buying an air fryer, but you also don’t want to spend more money than you have to. You can get a good quality air fryer for around $150-$200. Depending on the brand, the features may be a little different, but that just comes down to personal preference.

In my opinion, the cooking capacity is one of the main features to look at when considering price.

Some models may have the exact same features as each other, but the only difference is a larger cooking capacity.

If you don’t plan on cooking for a group of people, then there’s really no need to spend the extra money on something that will take up more counter space. When you determine how often you will use the air fryer and how many people you will generally cook for, it will be easier to justify the price.

Conclusion

From our air fryer reviews, Now that you have a general overview of how an air fryer works and what the differences are among them, you can make an informed decision when it comes to your purchase.

In my opinion, the Philips HD9230/26 Digital Air Fryer with Rapid Air Technology has everything that you would need. It is fairly compact if you are limited in space, but it also has a good cooking capacity in case you want to cook more.

But if you don’t need that much capacity or additional features, then the Philips HD9220/26 Air Fryer with Rapid Air Technology is the same quality, but just smaller and with fewer features.

Cooking with the best air fryer is a healthy way to make the fried foods that you desire. If you’ve ever considered buying one, then don’t waste another minute and get yours today since you know the ins-and-outs after reading this guide!

Performance and Parts

Parts

With a 1.8-pound capacity and easy to handle body, this machine has been one of the easiest to maneuver that many users have found. It is around 15 pounds, which is light for a fryer even though it might seem heavy for an appliance. It is a big cumbersome in size, however, so keep that in mind if you don’t have a lot of available counter space.

There is enough room to prepare a nice sized meal for a small family, and an adjustable temperature control means that it cooks a broad spectrum. However, you should note that in order to get nice, even cooking, you can’t double layer in an air fryer. The nice thing about this machine is that it comes with a rack so that you can put in two layers – you don’t get that will many fryers.

The temperature control on the Philips HD9230/26 Digital AirFryer with Rapid Air Technology, Black is the best you will find on a Philips air fryer, because you are able to get specific about the temperature – it doesn’t just say “low” or “high.” This definitely gives you a better cook all over the foods, not just on one side.

The basket is coated with cool touch hand grips, which users have found eliminates a lot of the burning that comes with using a fryer.

As an added bonus, the machine has dishwasher safe parts. A basic recipe book also comes along with the fryer.

Performance

Thanks to the small size of the machine, if you fry the food properly, you do get a really good crisp on it. The machine works best with pre-breaded food, like chicken nuggets, mozzarella sticks, or other packaged goods.

However, if you do a little bit of trial and error with your homemade fried foods, you will be able to find a good balance. According to users, you may have to use just a little more oil in these instances, because it crisps them up a lot more.

Safety Features

The timer is equipped with an automatic shut off feature.

Internal storage of the cord makes the machine last longer than many other fryers because the cord doesn’t get frayed or bent during storage. This also makes the machine safer and reduces the risk of fire.

One great feature is that you can download an app that will help you with any and all of the problems you’ll have with this one. This means that you can get help instantly in case of any problems that you might face. The app is available for iOS or Android.

Problems & Solutions

With this fryer you do need to use some oil, though many people claim that they use a tablespoon or less.

A few users have complained about the food that sticks to the racks, which does seem like a problem for air fryers. However, other people have suggested using a little bit of cooking spray before using the fryer.

There aren’t a lot of accessories with this fryer like there are with some of the other ones on the market, but users have found that the optional accessories for things like baking, grilling, and roasting are really high quality and worth the extra money.

Finally, a lot of people seem to be complaining about the instruction manual for this one. It is just a giant sheet of paper and isn’t really all that sturdy, and it does require a little bit of fumbling. However, the machine is really easy to use so you will really only have to use it once or twice until you get the hang of it.

The Final Call

These air fryers allow you be a little healthier when you cook fried food. In the end, the Philips HD9230/26 Digital AirFryer with Rapid Air Technology, Black is one of the better air fryers on the market today because it comes standard with some things (a double rack) that other air fryers don’t. It is also more personalized and detail-oriented than a lot of other air fryers, where you basically only have a few choices on cooking.

If easy clean up, high quality materials, and effective storage solutions are important to you, then this might be the best air fryer on the market for you. It cooks evenly and tastes really good – even for skeptics.

Features to Love

[ct_bullets]

  • Great price and very affordable
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Non-stick
  • Easy operation
  • Small and compact
  • Fast cooking time
  • 3.2L capacity
  • Included cookbooks and recipes

[/ct_bullets]

Though small, this nifty machine packs a punch with its ability to heat up to 392 degrees F. With this temperature, it can easily handle frying chicken and more. I love how simple the machine is to operate. Air is heated and circulated around the food rapidly, allowing you to not only fry but also grill, roast, and bake! Just turn the dial to desired time setting and sit back while it does all the work for you.

It’s a great option for someone curious to try out an Air Fryer, but not willing to invest in a top of the line, bells and whistles fryer. For the reasonable low price, it’s a great fryer to get started with.

A Breeze To Clean and Maintain

When you compare it to a traditional fryer, you will quickly realize how much simpler an air-fryer is to operate and clean up after. The air fryer doesn’t leave nearly as strong as a smell lingering in the air as my regular deep fryer does. Nor do I have to worry about changing the oil in this baby.

With my traditional fryer, I would set off my sensitive smoke alarms every, single, time. I would also have oil splatters to clean up and oil to filter for next use. With the Cozyna, I can take all the parts of this pod-shaped air fryer and stick them in the dishwasher for an easy clean-up, though I prefer washing them by hand.

There are only two pieces that technically need cleaning, the basket and what the basket sits in. Since there is barely any oil involved, the outside of my machine is almost always clean.

Saves Time and Space

My children love homemade french fries and request them fairly often. Before owning the Cozyna Air Fryer, I would bake them in the oven. While they turned out ok, they would taste a bit dry, and it would take 30+ minutes. By the time they would finish baking, my whole kitchen would be hot from the oven being in use. For two little children, heating up the oven multiple times a week just for a quick lunch, seemed to be out of hand.

With the Air Fryer by Cozyna, I was able to cut that time down to 15 minutes and the taste was crispier on the outside while still soft on the inside. Being able to cut up to 50% of my cooking time is a big deal for me.

Not only does it save me time, but it also saves me space, compared to the size of a traditional deep fryer. It is a bit smaller than my KitchenAid Mixer, allowing me to save counter space and store the fryer away easily when it’s not in use.

But Can “Air Fried” Food Really Compare to Deep Fried?

This is the question that I was curious about myself. After owning the product for several months, I can say that some foods take experimentation. The motto, “if at first you don’t succeed, try try again” applies to cooking with the Air Fryer.

The machine isn’t magical and you do have to play around with the cooking settings to find that sweet spot for crunch and brownness. I’ve had no problems cooking frozen fried foods such as potato fries, chicken wings, and chicken nuggets.

The top of the Air Fryer has helpful setting recommendations for different types of food which help you ballpark the right temperature and time.

Cons Associated with the Air Fryer by Cozyna

[ct_bullets_2]

  • Too simple: For those who prefer back-lit displays and more features, the Air Fryer by Coznya may seem primitive.
  • The paint may peel with time on the exterior, but this is mainly a cosmetic defect as it in no way affects the machine’s performance
  • Non-stick Teflon coatings can chip and flake with time
  • Heats up on the outside

[/ct_bullets_2]

While in use, the cooker does get hot on the outside, but this is to be expected with any cooker, toaster, or small oven. Another possible con to consider is its size. Thought the small size is perfect for saving space it makes it more suitable for 1-2 people; otherwise, you have to fry more batches.

Since the Air Fryer fries food quickly, I have no problem making several batches for my kiddos and husband. It’s a great way to quickly prepare frozen foods without losing that crunch and without having them saturated in fat. It’s also a great way to reheat leftovers.

The non-stick Teflon coating makes cleaning and cooking a breeze, but several reviews note that the Teflon may chip and flake. Since the machine is so easy to clean, I’ve been hand washing and gently drying the parts right away, so I haven’t had this issue show up with my Air Fryer yet.

Even though Teflon may be dishwasher safe, the harsh detergents and sitting in hot water wears it down much faster, which, I’m guessing, is the culprit behind the chipping some customers have experienced.

Conclusion

The Air Coznya is perfect for simple meals and is a convenient way to create quick snacks. It’s cheap, affordable, and allows you to cook a variety of foods without any hassle.

I find it to be a great alternative to my traditional deep fryer and find the taste of most foods improved from regular baking. Given its affordable price, the health benefits of using less oil, and the speed at which I can create simple meals, the Air Coznya is a great buy.

Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer Review

Sometimes it feels like in order to operate some of the new kitchen appliances on the market today, you have to have an engineering degree or be a rocket scientist. And really, most families don’t need something that only adds steps to their dinner routine.

After a long day of work, the last thing you want to do is play with a fryer in order to get the temperature right, install different racks to get the best settings, constantly monitor the temperature gauge, and then actually prepare the food that is getting fried. It is too much!

Is there a fryer out there that will be quick and easy enough to use on a regular Tuesday?

Overview

Are you the type of person that needs things to be super high tech and so over the top with extras that you don’t know what half of them do? If so, the Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer might not be the fryer for you. This one is basic and simple because that is all it really needs to be – and that makes it a favorite for some people. Simplicity is just as good as something been technologically advanced when it comes to fryers.

There aren’t a lot of bells and whistles to this fryer, which is the reason that people either love it or they hate it. What you need to know is that it does have some of the bonus features that are useful, but it doesn’t really have all of the stuff that is great to have, but you never actually use them.

If you want to fry food and fry it really well, the Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer is a great fryer. If you want to fry food or bake it or roast it or make kabobs, this one might fall short.

Performance and Parts

Parts

This machine has a simplistic bucket design that is not a negative at all, though some people might think it is initially. If you are a newbie to frying, or you want something simple, this form eliminates the risk of something going wrong. You get a well-rounded cooking experience where the heat is evenly distributed throughout the cylinder, a non-stick finish so that cleanup is easy, and a compact design that won’t face as much wear and tear. The bucket is 8” in diameter and has a six cup oil capacity, a good size for cooking for a smaller family or a couple.

Since the bucket design doesn’t come out of the oil, you also receive a slotted spoon with the Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer. The spoon itself is nice and wide, allowing for a quick and easy serving experience.

One word of caution from many people who use the fryer is that the lid, while a good, thick plastic, is not meant to be used while you are frying your food as it can melt. The lid itself is great and snaps on when you are storing the device, so you don’t have to worry about any oil leaking.

Performance

Since there aren’t any fancy features or tech-geek savvy elements, there is less of a chance that something goes wrong.

The machine does have 1500 watts of power, which means that is middle of the pack – not too powerful, but enough to get the job done. It also works well with the 1.4 Liter size, warming the oil up quickly and keeping the oil at the same temperature thanks to one of the few tech features it does have, an internal thermometer.

When you are done, you are actually able to store the oil in the fryer – a big perk for many people who want quicker and easier mealtimes. Just make sure that you do filter the oil by pouring it into another container, putting a filter over top, and pouring the oil back into the fryer. This will keep your oil longer, which will save you money in the long run.

Safety Features

A big plus for many users is that the bucket itself is non-stick coated heavy duty aluminum instead of Teflon, which many people have problems with because of the chemicals used to create it.

The lack of features also means that the machine itself won’t overheat as easily.

Far and away the best safety feature – and one that more fryers need to use because far too many don’t – is the magnetic power cord. This means that if something were to snag the cord while the fryer is in use, it will just pop off the back. On other machines, the entire fryer would go flying and oil would be everywhere.

Problems & Solutions

One big problem for users is that you can’t actually control the temperature of the oil because it is automatic. However, a little bit of research shows that the ideal temperature for deep frying is between 350 and 375 degrees Fahrenheit, which is what the temperature of the machine is. Unfortunately, there isn’t a solution for that one, and it is just something you will have to accept for this price point.

Another problem is the amount of oil that the spoon brings up, but that can be solved by putting a paper towel on the plate so that any excess oil can be soaked into it.

The Final Call

If you can live without all of the gadgets and specialty features, the Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer is a really good little fryer. Many users say that it is the best fryer they have ever had and that it lasts longer than many of the other fryers they have tried. It is great for people who don’t really need to mess around with temperatures or who don’t want to spend a car payment on a fryer.

The price for this fryer is currently at a low spot, so if you are even just contemplating purchasing a fryer, this could be a great place to start your endeavors – it would also make a great gift!

Guide to Deep-Frying a Whole Duck

When it comes to deep-frying, ducks are ideal due to their high fat content that makes a browned, crisp skin when fried. Almost always, deep-fried foods taste good most especially if they are paired with a spicy dipping sauce.

Before you go out and make your delicious duck recipe, think about your personal safety by preparing the right tools and utensils.

Remember that it is a whole duck that you will be frying. Therefore, the pot you will be using should be large enough for the duck to be immersed in the oil. Moreover, it would be best to have an oil thermometer handy to easily check cooking temperature.

No oil temperature? No problem.

Dropping few bits of breadcrumbs into the hot oil could help. If breadcrumbs sizzle and bubble, then your oil is ready to deep-fry your duck. However, an excessively hot oil that begins to smoke would mean the outside may be in danger of getting overcooked before the inside of the duck is done.

Moreover, brined ducks should be completely dried before being fried. Ducks that are either wet inside or outside may cause oil in the pot to overflow and may even start a fire.

Also have the deep fryer setup in a flat and well-ventilated location. It would be best if the fryer is more than 10 feet away from building, vehicles, and trees. For added safety, never use a deep fryer in covered areas like a garage or a porch as heat could easily build up.

Furthermore, have a fire extinguisher handy in case of emergency.

If you think you are ready, here are the steps you can follow to deep-fry a whole duck:

Step 1

Fill your deep fryer with peanut oil and allow it to heat up to 360 degrees Fahrenheit in a Dutch oven or in a deep and heavy pot. Make sure there is a four to six-inch gap in between the top of the pot and the oil.

Step 2

Season dried ducks with salt and pepper. You can also try mixing cups of flour to your favorite spices and then sprinkle them all over the whole duck.

Step 3

Slowly submerge the whole duck in the oil and let it fry for about nine minutes or until it turns brown.

Step 4

Remove the whole duck from the fryer and drain excess oil on paper towels. Let the whole duck rest for about ten minutes.

Step 5

Add more taste to the newly deep-fried whole duck by sprinkling it with fresh ground pepper and sea salt.

Step 6

Slice the meat and serve it with a dipping sauce. Two of the best dipping sauces you can make are the sweet and hot mustard sauce and the roasted red pepper sauce.

These are pretty much the steps you have to follow to deep-fry a whole duck. The steps are not as complicated as you might have initially thought. It just needs good attention to details to ensure the whole duck is not overcooked or unevenly cooked.

The temperature range of the machine goes from 175°F – 392°F, which is on par with other machines of this type, if not a little on the small side, as many will go up to 400°F. A pro for users who are busy in the kitchen is that the machine lights up when it is ready to go.

Many busy cookers love that the machine actually gives you the chance to do more than just frying – you are able to grill, bake, fry, and roast within the machine. It eliminates the need for other items in your kitchen.

Finally, the fryer is ETL certified, which means that you can expect high quality throughout the construction, performance, and materials.

Parts

A 30-minute timer ensures that you are able to work on other food prep items. The timer is incredibly accurate and also has an automatic shut-off option when set.

The 2.8-quartbasket is a favorite among users. It is detachable from the machine so that the food can transfer from the fryer to the serving dish easily. The lack of oil makes it drip free. The handles of both the fryer and the basket are coated with cool-touch material so you won’t get burned.

The basket and fryer is big enough to cook a meal for a family of four, though you can certainly cook small amounts with success.

Finally, a lot of users have reported absolutely loving the recipe book that comes with the fryer. It is filled with healthy, delicious recipes that aren’t the standard fryer fare – they actually have some recipes that you probably haven’t tried before.

The machine itself is self-contained and on the smaller side for a fryer, so it fits onto your shelves or counter space very easily.

Safety Features

The timer automatically shuts off after 30 minutes of disuse, which helps preserve the integrity of the machine and can save any accidents. The machine switches into stand-by mode when it is done cooking.

There is a limited warranty from the manufacturer, so if something does ever go wrong, you will get a replacement or your money back.

Problems & Solutions

While current users don’t have a lot of complaints about the machine, some have mentioned that the white finish does get dirty quickly. While it does wipe off thanks to the finish, it is still something to think about.

With the operation of the machine itself, an air fryer will take longer than a deep fryer to cook your food. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to fix this problem because it just has to do with the nature of air frying. However, the cook will be better than it is with a deep fryer.

Some users also complained about the tongs that come with the fryer. They said that they tongs are cheap and poor quality. There isn’t a solution to this, but a set of high quality tongs aren’t that expensive, so you might be able to just overlook that.

The Final Call

The DELLA© Electric Air Fryer w/ Temperature Control, Detachable Basket & Carry Handle – White, 1500W is a healthy option for small families that still want to have high quality fried food. The air frying capabilities save you money over time because you aren’t constantly loading the machine with expensive oils. It will also likely save you money on health care costs.

Right now, the price of the DELLA© Electric Air Fryer is extremely low – Amazon has it almost half off! There is a new machine due to be out soon, which is why the price has fallen. However, this great machine doesn’t really have many bugs to fix, so a new model is just to make more money. This machine will last you a long time– but the price won’t, so you need to act quickly.

Key Features and Advantages

  • Small and Compact
  • Ease of Use
  • Ease of Cleanup

The Philips Viva Airfryer only uses a tablespoon (18 ml) of oil to cook around 1.8 lb (816g) of french fries, 1.8lb being the food capacity of the Airfryer itself. The “fryer” is basically a hot air cooker that offers a much healthier alternative to deep fried food.

Aesthetically, it is cute, compact and glossy. Concerning function, one way to think of it is as a small convection oven as it does not literally fry your food. The french fries I have cooked in this fryer have turned out superb, and I feel no guilt eating them as they have 70% less fat than those deep fried!

The small capacity has its pros and its drawbacks, though. For those with tiny kitchens and a constant craving for fries, the Philips Viva Airfryer is a winner. It is surprisingly compact, with a tall and thin construction as opposed to a wide such as that seen in rotary health fryers. It is smaller than my KitchenAid mixer which is great as my apartment has very limited counter space.

At the top of the fryer, you will see the heating element and fan while the bottom features a drawer that pulls out to reveal a cooking basket. This mesh basket is made of metal, with non-stick coating, allowing the air to pass completely through it all the way to the bottom, circulating the air efficiently. Sadly, there is no viewing window for the curious.

I found the controls very simple to use as there are so few of them. On the front face of the fryer is the 30-minute timer that goes off with a ding when the time is up. This timer also controls the auto shut-off. At the top of the fryer sits the adjustable temperature control which goes up to 390 degrees.

The fryer’s handgrips don’t get hot and the feet have non-slip grips to keep the “fryer” in place. A cord storage is also built into the bottom to keep things organized when it’s not in use. While the fryer is baking, you can hear the fan but it isn’t noisy enough to make you turn up the T.V.

The fryer came with a 25 recipe book that claims that the fryer can also grill, roast, and bake small cakes. So far I have cooked french fries multiple times, with success, popcorn chicken, and popcorn shrimp, but I haven’t tried baking yet.

There is even Philips Airfryer app available that gives, even more, tips and recipes though I haven’t downloaded it myself.

Before purchasing the Philips Airfryer, I would make my french fries in the oven as a healthier alternative. While these were ok, they weren’t crispy enough for my taste. With this fryer the results were much more impressive and much tastier than my oven fries.

So far both frozen and fresh homemade french fries, as well as popcorn shrimp and chicken have turned out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside thanks to the convection design of the machine.

It is a breeze to clean up, especially if you compare it to deep frying, as there is barely any oil involved. Everything but the motor can go in the dishwasher, but even the body is relatively easy to clean by hand. The mesh basket may require some soaking depending on what type of food you prepare. It is also recommended to dry the basket immediately after drying to prevent it from rusting over time.

The Drawbacks

  • Size
  • Price
  • Versatility

Like I mentioned earlier the compact size is perfect for my small kitchen but not as ideal for my family of four. It takes multiple batches and is probably better suited for one to two people. One batch is about the same as two medium orders at McDonalds. Still it is convenient to make quick snacks for the children and me.

The price is a bit high considering the limitations of the machine. With the purchase of the additional rack and baking dish available, the variety of foods the Philips Air Fryer is capable of handling probably goes up, but these things are not included with the fryer and must be purchased separately.

When it comes to the function, many of the foods will turn out just as well in the convection oven that I own though the “fryer” is much faster when it comes to the food preparation itself. For the price, you may want to consider a regular convection oven in its stead, particularly if you have more mouths to feed and don’t enjoy cooking multiple batches.

The Verdict

For the designated purpose of baking fries the Philips Airfryer does its job well. It bakes the food faster than my oven with satisfactory results. The size of the Airfryer makes it convenient for smaller families and the machine itself is well built and easy to clean.

A simple appliance that saves time and space, without sacrificing the taste or compromising your health. For me, the Philips Airfryer makes it easier to enjoy quick snacks that aren’t deep fried. With purchase of the additional accessories its versatility may go up, giving you even more foods with which to experiment.

Overview

The T-fal FR4049 Family Pro 3-Liter Deep Fryer with Stainless Steel Waffle, 2.6-Pound, Silver is a great pick because it is easy to use and has many popular features that are needed for more complicated and high end meals. It is big enough to cook full meals, though small enough to keep the price on the lower side for a family fryer.

For the price, the fryer is a great selection for a family that plans on using it quite a bit. It falls a little higher, when fully priced, than some of the other fryers on the market, but it is worth it thanks to the many bells and whistles. It also happens to just be a lot more dependable than some of the other ones out there.

Performance and Parts

The product specifications for this particular model are as follows:

  • Food capacity: 2.65 lbs
  • Oil capacity: 3.3 l of oil
  • Electrical voltage: 1,600 watt
  • Product Dimensions: 19.3 x 12 x 13.6 inches
  • Weight: 11.8 pounds

Parts

The first part of the machine that many users pick out as a favorite is the thermostat. While many machines have thermostats, few are as adjustable as this one is. The thermostat aligns with the timer so that cooking food is easy and more hands free than ever before – perfect for a machine line this, where flying grease is an issue. The timer lasts up to an hour.

The thermostat is incredibly sensitive, so once you set it, you don’t have to worry about fluctuations in the oil, which many users find is helpful when frying delicate foods.  Many users refer to it as a “set it and forget it” thermometer because you don’t have to keep checking it.

An easy to see indicator light allows you to know when the oil is warmed to the right temperature, eliminating the waste of having to try with a piece of food and potentially hurting yourself.

Many cooks also appreciate the convenient lip where the basket sits when it is not in the oil. That allows you to load the basket evenly, seeing where each and every piece of food goes. It also serves as a place for the basket to sit after cooking to allow the oil to drain.

Another unique feature that many appreciate is the window that allows someone to see into the basket while the food cooks. This eliminates the need to keep opening the lid to check, and will help to keep the temperature stable.

The T-fal FR4049 Family Pro 3-Liter Deep Fryer with Stainless Steel Waffle, 2.6-Pound, Silver holds up to 2.6 pounds of food and holds 3 liters of oil, which is pretty standard and will feed a family of four. The heating element is 1600 watts, also standard.

Clean up is easy as both the frying basket and the pot can be washed in a dishwasher.

The product comes with a one-year warranty.

Safety Features

Many moms love that the unit is cool to the touch, which is great for families that have a lot of hands in the kitchen. This safety feature continues to the basket, which also has a cool touch handle.

Once the fryer has been on for a long time, it automatically shuts off, if you happen to be a more forgetful kind of person.

Another safety feature that comes standard is a magnetic plug.

Problems & Solutions

Some users have found that the fryer doesn’t heat up as quickly as other fryers do. While there isn’t a set solution for it, the reason it does this is because it checks the temperature of ALL of the oil, not just the oil that is near the thermometer.

Other users don’t like that it takes a lot of oil. However, because this machine is easy to clean and doesn’t spit as much, thanks to the lid, you are able to get quite a few uses out of the oil.

Another issue is that the fryer is a bit large, and some people complained about the amount of counter or cabinet space that it takes up.

If anything does happen to pop up with the machine, the one-year warranty covers a lot and people who have had issues with the machine had a replacement sent quickly.

The Final Call

Customers love this fryer for everything it is. The features make it easier to use than many other fryers. Users has reported fewer burns, more evenly cooked foods, easier clean up, and even faster cooking time.

If you want a fryer that doesn’t require all of the work, then the T-fal FR4049 Family Pro 3-Liter Deep Fryer with Stainless Steel Waffle, 2.6-Pound, Silver is the one for you: plug in, set the temperature you need, place the food into the basket, set the timer, and forget about it until it goes off.

If you are a single person, the fryer also works just as well with smaller amounts of food, though you will need to use the same amount of oil. However, this means that you will be able to get more uses out of your oil.

With fryer season just around the corner, make sure you take advantage of the sales and discounts. Soon enough, the prices will go back up.

Which is the Best: Deep Fryer or Air Fryer?

All food lovers, who not only like to eat, but also want to cook special dishes, are surely very familiar with fryers. This is due to the fact that fryers are not just used commercially in restaurants or fast-foods, but are also nowadays widely utilized in residences.

There are two popular types of fryers: deep fryer and air fryer. They obviously have different product features and specifications, but they are both designed to make a deliciously-fried food.

In this article, we will highlight the advantages of using these two fryers and explain how one is better than the other. It’s our aim to help you decide which fryer is best suited to your style of cooking and your way of life.

What is a deep fryer?

A deep fryer, also popularly called as a fryolator or a deep fat fryer, is a kitchen appliance that’s primarily designed for deep frying.

They are mostly used in commercial kitchens like those in several fast-food chains and restaurants.

Its very common feature is the basket that can be used to raise and clear food from oil once cooking is finished. Its additional features may include timers with alarm, an automated mechanism to raise and lower the basket into the oil, ventilation systems, oil filters, and temperature controls.

What is an air fryer?

An air fryer is another popular kitchen appliance that makes use of circulated hot air to cook food. Often, a mechanical fan is devised to circulate hot air at high speed around the food.

Since it uses very minimal oil to fry food, this obviously is a healthier alternative to many people.

In addition to the usual cooking basket that sits on top a drip tray, air fryers often include an adjustable timer and temperature knobs to ensure precise cooking.

Here’s a quick comparison between the deep and air fryer:

Usage of oil

Frying food with hot air uses a maximum of one tablespoonful of oil, while deep frying involves about one to four liters of oil. This means more savings on oil with air fryers.

Ideally, used oil should be disposed off as it may cause negative health impacts. This is especially true when cooking food in used oil with some burnt foods in it.

Health impacts

Air fryers use less oil, thus air-fried food like French fries and chicken contain about 80% less fat than deep-fried ones.

It is because air fryers eliminate excess oil from the food during the cooking process.

Which is better in this department: Air fryer

Tastefulness of food

Deep fryers make use of excessive oil to cook food, thus you can expect your chicken meat or skin to be more tender and moist inside. Meanwhile, food cooked using circulated hot air are less crunchy as well.

Which is better in this department: Deep fryer

Ease and safety of use

Air fryers are covered with a lid, thus you can technically leave them on their own. Their timer and temperature can also be preset to cook food, thus you can safely move around during the cooking process. They can also be used to roast, grill, and bake.

Meanwhile, deep fryers would require constant monitoring to prevent food from being burnt out. If they’re not careful, users may also experience burns or other injuries from very hot oil. Therefore, deep fryers are only advisable for those who are really familiar in using it. As to usage, they are only good for deep frying.

Which is better in this department: Air fryer

Ease of cleaning

Air fryers only have the drip pan and the cooking basket to clean. Even if food might get stuck to the pan, this can be easily cleaned out by hand using dishwasher soap.

Deep fryers, on the other hand, would require more thorough cleanup due to oil vapors and excess oil that are likely to settle down on their counter tops and other surfaces. This means you would have to spend more time and show more patience to ensure the fryer gets properly cleaned and lasts longer.

Which is better in this department: Air fryer

Cooking capacity and time

Deep fryers cook a lot faster than air fryers. This is because it’s the hot oil that transfers and efficiently cooks the food.

At an average, frozen potato wedges get cooked in 15 minutes by an air fryer. Meanwhile, they can be cooked in just a few minutes using a deep fryer.

Moreover, deep fryers offer more cooking space than air fryers. This makes deep fryers highly ideal in occasions and venues where more food needs to be cooked and prepared at any one time.

Which is better in this department: Deep fryer

Price

Deep dryers usually cost from $50 to $200, while air fryers may generally be priced at the very least, $100. Fryers with more features are obviously the more expensive ones.

Conclusion

The areas discussed are so far the most important things to consider when you’re still looking for a fryer to purchase. Based on the pros and cons we’ve mentioned, you’d need to decide which matters most.

If you’d want to prepare a much healthier food that’s lesser in fat, then an air fryer will be a good choice.

If you’re in a tight budget and you prefer having a tastier or crunchier food, then the deep fryer would be the better one to buy.

Before purchasing, think about the features and take time to learn more about the benefits you’re after each product.
